Despite the shortage of paper, there is enough supply for the school market.

Barranquilla News.

Barranquilla merchants dedicated to the sale of school supplies hope that 2022 will be a good year to reactivate their businesses since in 2021 their sales were not as expected due to the lack of attendance in the classes of schools and universities, a restriction derived from the Covid-19 pandemic.

For the Association of Merchants of the Center of Barranquilla (ASOCENTRO), this month of January and February are challenging for this sector, given the uncertainty about whether or not students will return to classrooms.

Dina Luz Pardo Olaya, director of the entity, highlighted the fact that despite the scarcity of paper, there is a sufficient supply of notebooks and notebooks available for sale.

«This week the school season begins in the trade, and in the center of Barranquilla the establishments that offer school supplies, provisioned in advance and today have the necessary assortment to meet the demand, despite the shortage of paper and its derivative products, collapse in the mills, as well as the lack of containers, “said Dina Luz Pardo Olaya, director of Asocentro.

And he stressed that since previous months the sellers of school supplies have been preparing to satisfy their customers:

«From the month of December the counters, showcases and stands began to be filled with notebooks, pencils, bags and other items. In fact, the atmosphere of the school season is already felt, something that did not happen in 2021, a year that for other sectors was of reactivation, for this it was not. This sector had a decrease of 30% due to pandemic issues and not attending school. Many sustained themselves by opening space within their establishments for other types of sale, “he said.

In addition to the economic reactivation, this sector expects growth compared to the 2019-2020 school season.

On the other hand, one more benefit of the arrival of the school season are the companies dedicated to clothing.

Uniforms, not only for students but for the staff of teachers and administrative area are also quoted and required in the market.

So far both the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Health have announced 100% presence in schools, however, given the growth of Covid-19 cases due to the Omicron variant, it is unknown whether the measure remains in place or if there will be any change.
