Mauricio Cárdenas to Goldman Sachs as advisor

Goldman Sachs Group Inc. hired former Colombian Finance Minister Mauricio Cárdenas Santamaría as regional advisorl, according to an internal memo seen by Bloomberg.

Cárdenas, visiting senior fellow at the Center for Global Energy Policy at Columbia University, provide strategic advice to the firm about business development opportunities, with a particular focus on Colombia.

The New York-based bank also has regional advisors for Peru, Argentina and Chile.

Cárdenas was finance minister from 2012 to 2018. He has also served as minister of economic development, transportation, mines and energy, and as director of Colombia’s National Planning Department, according to the memo. He has also held positions in companies such as Ecopetrol SA, Banco Davivienda SA and the Colombian Stock Exchange.

Maeve DuVally, a spokeswoman for Goldman Sachs, confirmed the contents of the memorandum to the international news agency.

Cárdenas Santamaría was also director of the Fedesarrollo study center and has shown interest in the presidency of the Republic on several occasions without being an official candidate for the House of Nariño until now.
