Matanzas dawns in apparent calm and enveloped by a column of smoke

Madrid Spain.- The city of Matanzas woke up this Tuesday in extreme calm and enveloped by the column of smoke that remains due to the fire unleashed last Friday, as could be seen during the live broadcast of CubaNet.

“There is at least an apparent calm”, even the people from Matanzas have gone to work, explained during the “live” the collaborator of this medium Fabio Corchado Borroto.

In conversations with the evacuees, who are at the University of Matanzas, some explained that they had returned to their homes, but after the third explosion they decided to return.

Just as they detailed that they had felt a tremendous heat inside the houses and some even thought they would burn.

Borroto, who has tried to talk with the injured, the families of the victims and the firefighters about the events, explains that it is very difficult because they are afraid to offer statements.

“There is a lot of fear, especially the relatives of the victims. They are very afraid to speak. They are receiving great pressure”, specifies our reporter.

As Borroto has verified, even the refugees are afraid.

Fabio Corchado was also able to verify that there is a very great and general annoyance among the people of Matanzas, due to the firefighters who were injured or are missing, many of whom were very young and were doing their Military Service.

These many were sent as pipe firefighters from the tanker trucks when the fire started, with little material that could do little to cope with a fire of such dimensions.

According to the latest report from the Cuban authorities, so far 14 people remain missing, 22 patients are hospitalized, five of them in critical condition, two are reported in serious condition and 15 in care.
