The Minister of Economy, Sergio Massa, will travel to the United States in the first week of September as part of an agenda of trips abroad in which, it is expected, he will also visit other countries, according to what the Argentine ambassador in Washington reported on Monday. Jorge Arguello.

“Today, with Sergio Massa we have defined his next agenda in the US. At the end of August I will receive (at the Argentine embassy) a high-level technical mission from the Ministry of Economy headed by Leonardo Madcur”Arguello detailed in a message on his Twitter account.

The ambassador added that “First week of September we confirm the visit (of) Minister Sergio Massa to Washington DC”.

On the minister’s agenda are a meeting with the managing director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Kristalina Georgievawho will ratify that the objective set forth in the agreement signed last March of lowering the deficit to 2.5% of GDP by the end of the year will be met.

He would also meet with the president of the World Bank, David Malpass, the director for the Western Hemisphere of the United States National Security Council, Juan González, and in the United States Treasury it is not ruled out that Massa could arrange a meeting with the secretary Janet Yellen and Deputy Secretary David Lipton.

Massa’s initial idea was to make a tour of the United States, France and Qatar, but it was decided to divide the tour in two to enhance the agenda of contacts and negotiations.

In this way, the head of the Palacio de Hacienda plans to spend two or three days in Washington to guarantee an agenda at the highest institutional level and at least one day in New York, to strengthen the relationship with investors.

For a second stage, there will be trips to France, where he will meet with the authorities of the Paris Club with which Argentina is negotiating a new agreement for a debt of nearly US$ 2,500 million, and then to Qatar.
