Marseille-Lille closes with a draw day 21 of French football

Paris, Jan 16 (Prensa Latina) Matchday 21 of French soccer closed today with a 1-1 draw between Olympique de Marseille and Lille, an unfavorable result for both clubs in their aspirations in Ligue 1, easily led by PSG.

At the Vélodrome stadium in the southern city of Marseille and before only five thousand spectators due to the limitations derived from Covid-19, the visit started ahead in the 15th minute with a goal by Dutch defender Sven Botman, but Los Dogos were outnumbered with the expulsion in minute 32 of Benjamin André.

The locals took total control of the game, to the point of shooting more than 20 times on goal, until the Turkish Cengiz Under leveled the scoreboard in the 75th minute with his sixth goal of the campaign.

With the tie, Olympique de Marseille remained third in Ligue1 with 37 points and lost the opportunity to have the same units as sub-leader Nice (39), behind the comfortable leader PSG (50).

For their part, Lille reached 29 points and remained in tenth place, in a performance far removed from the one that made them champions of France last season.

This Sunday, the Rennes and Monaco clubs improved in the table, after thrashing at home, the former Bordeaux 6-0, and the latter 4-0 Clermont, to climb to fourth and fifth place, respectively.

Date 21 again left Saint-Etienne on the losing side, so that the emblematic team seems destined for relegation, accumulating just 12 units.

As for the scorers table, Wissam Ben Yedder scored twice for Monaco today and equaled Canadian Jonathan David (Lille) at the top of the scorers with 12, followed with 10 by four players, including the star striker of PSG Kylian Mbappé, who is aiming for his fourth consecutive scoring crown in Ligue1.
