The Supreme Court of Justice opened a new process against the investigated senator Mario Castaño, for alleged illicit enrichment when he served as a representative to the Chamber, between 2014 and 2018.
The Special Chamber of Instruction made the determination after analyze an alleged unjustified increase in his assets, when he held the position of congressman in the House of Representativesso now Castaño will have to face two processes in that court.
It should be noted that the senator accepted the benefit of early sentencing, within the framework of the case that is advancing in the Special Chamber of First Instance, for allegedly having led a network of corruption that diverted money destined for social projects in different parts of the country.
In this process, Castaño’s defense had requested that the magistrates allow the congressman to remain confined in his home to attend to the health problems caused by the obesity suffered by the senator.
On that occasion, the Court decided to deny the petition while waiting for the Institute of Legal Medicine will carry out a medical-legal review to determine if indeed Castaño required a change in the measure of confinement.
The exam was carried out on February 21, in which the institute considered that The indicated person did not need to be hospitalized due to the health condition alleged by the defenderbecause in principle they argued that, due to obesity, there would be a greater risk of suffering a heart attack.
