The president of the PIT – CNT, Marcelo Abdala, referred to the mobilization and strike that will take place on November 15 in rejection of the social security reform and criticized the government for its management during these three years. “It is the government of the gold mesh. Neither the workers nor the small and medium-sized businesses have benefited. only the big ones“, he assured in dialogue with The Observer.
With reference to the mobilization and his criticism of the transformation of the pension system, Abdala assured that “supposedly this reform” was made to alleviate the deficit of the BPS, but that the financing is not discussed and that the only way to finance “seems to be increasing retirement age.”
In turn, he said that he does not raise the “current challenges in the world of work or a rights agenda“To benefit the entire population. Faced with this situation, he adhered to the proposal of the white senator, Sergio Botana, to “tax robots” that replace human work. “Big capital must be taxed. Capitalism is in an inequality crisis“he added. “Today you will hear the workers’ cry against working more to earn less,” he said.
Abdala assured that “all the projections” indicate that, while the retirement age is increased, retirements will be lower in the future and that the reform is taking place just at a time when “salaries are being lowered.” “Also, How are they going to promote youth employment if the retirement age is raised?“, he asked himself.
Asked if the PIT-CNT will propose new measures after the mobilization, such as a referendum if the law is finally approved, Abdala affirmed “that it is not ruled out.” “The labor movement does not rule out anything. But everything in its path. The first objective is that this social security reform is not approved. And then, as requested by the International Labor Organization, that a commission of experts not be called, but that there are many instances of social participation to discuss“, he added.
With the slogan “Do not steal your future”, the Pit-CNT will carry out this partial strike with mobilization and will go from the University of the Republic to the Legislative Palace from 9:00 to 13:00.
