The ex-congressman He will give his defenses before the Subcommittee on Constitutional Accusations of Congress for the constitutional complaint filed against him this Friday, February 18.

As recalled, the National Prosecutor, Zoraida Ávalos, filed a constitutional complaint against lama merino; the former head of the Ministerial Cabinet Antero Flores-Aráoz and the former Minister of the Interior Gaston Rodriguez.

The accusation was due to deaths of Inti Sotelo and Bryan Pintadoand the injuries suffered by 78 people in the mobilizations of November 2020. The defendants are charged with the crimes of homicide, serious and minor injuries by way of eventual intentin the improper omission mode.

The subcommittee will also analyze an appeal for annulment filed by lama merino on the constitutional claim. In the session of said working group, they must also present their disclaimers Antero Flores-Aráoz.

In the complaint filed with Congress, the National Prosecutor’s Office states that Merino, Flores-Aráoz and Rodríguez they failed to comply with their constitutional duty to protect the life and physical integrity of the participants in the aforementioned mobilizations.

Likewise, it is considered that they did not adopt measures to control the use of police force, which ended up being disproportionate. This omission occurred – the Prosecutor’s Office points out – despite having official information referring to the intensification of these actions.

In this regard, it is specified that the accused would have acted with eventual fraudbecause since they assumed their positions they knew about the social demonstrations, since these were reported by the media.

Similarly, a request from Congresswoman María Taipe Coronado will be addressed to prioritize Constitutional Complaint 225, filed by her colleague Margot Palacios, against the head of Parliament, Maria del Carmen Alva (People’s Action).

It should be noted that the eighth ordinary virtual session of the Subcommittee on Constitutional Accusations of Congress will take place this Friday from 11:00 am. through the Microsoft Teams platform.
