The senator and leader of Cabildo Abierto, Guido Manini Ríos, was this Sunday at the Radisson hotel where the main leaders of the coalition awaited the results of the referendum against the 135 articles of the Law of Urgent Consideration (LUC).
In this context, and according to a conversation captured by El País, the leader of Cabildo Abierto assured that “the good thing” about the result is that “it makes everyone nervous.” In a conversation with the former candidate for president for the National Party Alberto Volonté and the senator from the same party Carmen Asiaín, the senator made a quick analysis of the first results that were released this Sunday night.
“The good thing about this result is that it makes us all nervous, we are aware that any mistake we lose. The difference in two years is not there, any mistake we lose“, expressed the senator and Volonté answered affirmatively.
With 49.86% of the votes (1,087,557 people), plus 1.32% of blank votes (28,747), the No to the repeal of the articles beat the Yes, which reached 48.82% (1,065. 001). The result shows a difference of 22 thousand votes without the blank votes and is very similar to the result that occurred in November 2019 in the second round of the national elections. On that occasion, the formula headed by Luis Lacalle Pou defeated the Broad Front formula by some 30,000 votes.
