The Mining Union, headed by Napoleón Gómez Urrutia, submitted a request for the US government to initiate a labor complaint as part of the Rapid Response Labor Mechanism of the trade agreement of the Treaty between Mexico, the United States and Canada, regarding the strike in the mine of San Martín, in Sombrerete, Zacatecas, which turned 15 years old.

The request was managed through the United Steelworkers (USW) of the United States and Canada, and is currently in the process of being assessed to be presented to the Washington Department of Labor, said Nahir Velasco, legal advisor to the union.

We have filed a complaint in the mines that have been on strike for 15 years in San Martínaffirmed the senator from Morena, referring to the mine located in Sombrerete, in which Grupo México maintains operations, despite the fact that the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation determined the legality of the strike of the workers of section 201 and that the collective contract belongs to the National Union of Mining, Metallurgical, Steel and Similar Workers of the Mexican Republic.

Even recently, a collegiate labor court ruled unanimously in this regard; The ruling is final and recognizes the strike movement that broke out on July 30, 2007, so the labor authorities are only expected to return the mine facilities to section 201.

The longest strikes in the country’s history, pointed out Gómez Urrutia, continue to be active as a result of the indifference, arrogance and pride of the consortium owned by Germán Larrea and also that no progress has been made by the authorities Mexican labor organizations to enforce the law.

Interviewed after participating in a forum of the National Association of Democratic Lawyers (ANAD), the mining leader indicated that they will also file labor complaints in the mines of Taxco, Guerrero (section 17), and in Cananea, Sonora (section 65), the which together with that of San Martín recently turned three decades unemployed.

In this sense, he proposed withdrawing the mining concessions to the company in the mines that are on strike.
