An earthquake of magnitude 4.9 on the Richter scale shook the Pacific coast of Nicaragua this Saturday, with no casualties or material damage reported at the moment, reported the Nicaraguan Institute of Territorial Studies (Ineter).
The tremor occurred at 07:42 local time (13:42 GMT) at a depth of 36 kilometers and its epicenter was located offshore, 30 kilometers southwest of the municipality of Nagarote, in the department of León, in the ocean. Pacific, detailed the Ineter in a report.
Ineter seismologist Domingo Ñamendi explained that the earthquake was caused by the collision between the Cocos and Caribbean plates, and did not generate any tsunami alert on the Pacific coast.

The Nicaraguan authorities have not reported victims or material damage as a result of the tremor, which caused alarm among some residents of the Nicaraguan Pacific, who reported it through their social networks.
The Pacific zone of Nicaragua is located on the collision line between the Coco and Caribbean tectonic plates, which in turn forms part of the so-called Pacific Ring of Fire, the most active geological zone in the world and where the largest number of earthquakes are recorded. .
