Minsa completes three weeks without detecting cases of covid-19 in Nicaragua

The Ministry of Health (Minsa) in the last three weeks, from October 8 to 29, has not reported a single confirmed case of covid-19 in Nicaragua. This is the first time, since the pandemic began in March 2020, that no consecutive positive cases of this disease have been identified.

Between last August and September, the Minsa maintained the number of confirmed cases of Covid-19 at one per week, according to weekly reports released by the institution in official media.

The authorities report that since the beginning of the pandemic they have “responsibly and carefully cared for and monitored 16,200 people” for covid-19, specifying that these “have frequently had associated conditions such as: high blood pressure, diabetes mellitus, obesity, heart disease , immunodeficiency syndrome, chronic renal failure, history of stroke, pulmonary tuberculosis and chronic lung diseases.

Period of lowest incidence of covid-19

The epidemiologist Álvaro Ramírez, in an interview with Article 66explained that normally in these months of the year “there are not such high numbers” of covid-19 in the country, but highlighted that “there is always the doubt of the manipulation of data by the Government of Nicaragua.”

«Covid-19 numbers traditionally in Nicaragua and around the world begin to rise from February, March. The endemic channel in Nicaragua, with respiratory diseases, has shown that the months of highest incidence tend to be the end of May, June, July, and then there is a second peak at the end of the year. But with the situation of lack of clarity of information, it is difficult to trust the data, but these are not the periods of greatest incidence,” said the specialist.

In addition, he highlighted that “the world is no longer so pressured with the reporting of cases, internal monitoring is being followed and it is quite difficult to have an accurate assessment of what could be happening specifically in Nicaragua, but it could be that in November, “With the end of the rains, temperatures drop, cases increase and many people have respiratory problems.”

Covid-19 cases decreased in Central America

The Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), through its portal for monitoring the covid-19 situation in the Americas, reveals that several Central American countries have reduced the number of confirmed cases of coronavirus between last August and September, without However, the infection numbers in most of these have not reached zero.

In Costa Rica, according to the details on the PAHO portal, in the first two weeks of last September – the date up to which they have updated their data with that organization – it registered 76 confirmed cases of covid-19.

In Guatemala, confirmed cases of covid, from the last week of August until last September 23, have remained between one and two confirmed infections per week. Likewise, in Honduras the authorities reported to PAHO that in August they documented between one and two confirmed cases of covid-19 per week, although in the first week of September, the date until which they have updated their data with that organization, they reported 5 cases confirmed.
