Magisterial Bloc: proposal on candidates for the Board of Directors is harmful to democratic principles

The Bloc Magisterial bench considered that the multi-party proposal so that the candidates for the Board of Directors of the Parliament are from the same party for which they were elected in general elections, is contrary and harmful to the democratic principles that the It represents.

Through a pronouncement, he said that it is “fake” that the proposal seeks “strengthen political parties as the basis of the democratic system”because if approved, 28 congressmen from various parliamentary groups would be prevented from running on the lists of candidates for the Board of Directors.

Likewise, it states that the specifications established by the draft legislative resolution would affect parliamentary institutions and the Peruvian democratic system, since “it would limit the possibility of a plural and multi-party Board of Directors”.

“Finally, we consider that the proposal is contrary and harmful to the democratic principles that the Congress of the Republic represents. As a parliamentary group, we reject the initiative and urge all Democratic congressmen to do the same. We believe that the defense of governance and democratic institutions in our country is vital”sentenced.

As recalled, the proposes to amend Article 12 of Parliament’s Rules of Procedure, in order to “strengthen political parties as the basis of the democratic system for a better parliamentary service”.

The amendment to the first paragraph of said rule specifies that the lists will be composed of congressmen belonging to the same political group by which they were elected in the last electoral process.
