President Nicolás Maduro led a promotion ceremony of officials of the National Armed Forces (FAN) attached to the Presidential Honor Guard and the General Directorate of Military Counterintelligence (Dgcim).
From the Theater of the Military Academy of the Army, in Fuerte Tiuna, Maduro gave the go-ahead to 271 promotions to their ranks and immediate superior hierarchies.
In an act that lasted for barely an hour, the president led the act of imposing belt loops and hoods to accredit the military.

Accompanied by the Minister of Defense, Vladimir Padrino López, by the Chief of the General Staff of the Command in Chief, José Ornelas Ferreira, by the Strategic Operational Commander of the FAN, Domingo Hernández Lárez and other members of the Superior General Staff of the FAN, Maduro recalled that this year a total of 12,670 active officials will be promoted.
“We have begun the military promotions corresponding to 2023. 12,670 FAN men and women are being promoted, which demonstrates the strength and health of our military institution, the backbone of peace,” he stressed.
In the morning, Padrino López referred to the acts of military promotion that would be held on June 30, which would include 3,150 officers and more than 9,500 professional troops.
The Defense Minister stressed that for these promotions the military were subjected to rigorous examinations not only in the physical aspect, but also “moral and intellectual conditions.”
On Thursday, June 29, prior to the promotions, Padrino López met with the ensigns and Marine Guards who will graduate as FAN officers on July 7.
