The President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, recalled this Wednesday that 20 years ago on April 13, 2002 during the coup against President Hugo Chávez.
He assured that “20 years ago the people defeated the coup of imperialism” and the world right.
“The oligarchy and imperialism believed that the Venezuelan people were going to cower, they were going to cross their arms and the people of Venezuela 20 years ago gave a historical lesson to the national oligarchy and imperialism,” he said.
The head of state received the Great Civic-Military Popular March for the Day of the Rescue of National Dignity and the 13th Anniversary of the Bolivarian Militia, in downtown Caracas.
“Imperialism believed that the Venezuelan people were going to be a kind of people who came from afar and watched the bulls from the bar and what they took was a historical lesson in defense of the Homeland,” he said.
“On April 13, it was the united Homeland that rescued Chavez in that people’s revolution,” he added.
President Maduro affirmed that “the April revolution united all the forces that had been demonstrating for decades,” while asserting that “there is no defeated or vanquished people because the people continue the struggle.”
«It was the united country that rescued the commander and president Hugo Chávez in that revolution of the people. Twenty years later we say do not underestimate the capacity of the revolution of the Chavista people, of the Venezuelan people », he said.
He stated that the Venezuelan population is still latent in the defense of the Homeland. «Twenty years later we say: do not underestimate the revolutionary capacity of the Chavista people, of the Venezuelan people; do not underestimate the conscience, the values, the bravery and the collective courage of our people », he declared.
He thanked the accompaniment of 53 friendly nations in the acts of this Wednesday.
The march that would have as its arrival point the República Bridge, located in the vicinity of the Miraflores Palace, started at just under 12:00 noon from Plaza San Martín and Plaza Morelos.
On April 13, 2002, a historic event materialized when the Venezuelan people did not allow democracy and sovereignty to be taken away, leading to the rescue of President Hugo Chávez Frías, who returned to power in less than 48 hours.
