Brasilia, Jan 9 (EFE).- President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva began this Monday with a series of high-level meetings in his office, the only place that was spared from the depredation carried out on Sunday by radical Bolsonarists who tried to overthrow him.
Lula chose to deliver from his office in the Planalto Palace to show that the violent acts of the far-right radicals will not paralyze the institutions.
The Minister of Social Communication, Paulo Pimenta, said that Lula chose to dispatch in Planalto “to show that the Government is functioning in absolute normality.”
“We are not going to allow a minority group of terrorists, criminals, who despise democracy and Brazil, to do what they are doing, and with that achieve the goal of paralyzing the functioning of the institutions,” Pimenta said.
The progressive leader began the day with a meeting with the heads of the Supreme Court and Congress, whose institutions were also attacked by the Bolsonaristas on Sunday afternoon, who called for maintaining “serenity” and “defending democracy.” in peace.
According to the report given by Minister Pimenta, the presidential office was not invaded by far-right radicals, as it is protected by armored glass.
Nor did the room where Lula holds ministerial meetings suffer any damage.
On Sunday afternoon thousands of radicals who do not recognize the results of the elections on October 30 organized the invasion of the headquarters of the three powers to try to overthrow President Lula.
At the headquarters of the Supreme Court of Justice, the Congress and the Planalto Palace, the radicals caused extensive damage, destroying furniture, computer equipment and works of art placed in the offices.
Police dispersed the demonstrators some four and a half hours after the start of the coordinated attack, for which some 1,500 people have been arrested so far. EFE
