Luis Pinedo officially launches his candidacy for Mayor of Panama; he will promote social audit committees

The activist and leader of the Citizen Consultation Movement, Luis Pinedo, held an act this Friday morning to officially present his campaign for Mayor of Panama for free candidacy. In that same act, he took the opportunity to introduce the rest of the list that accompanies him and make up the aforementioned movement.

Pinedo expressed that the important thing is to understand that there is a new management model proposed, which starts from transparency. “The mere fact that each citizen knows how the municipal funds are going to be used and that each citizen can decide what the municipal funds are going to be used for, already creates a new management model for this city,” he stated.

He added that the most different thing is to give the citizen the opportunity to decide on the works, to supervise them, since the law allows social auditing.

“From the Luis Pinedo mayor’s office, we are going to promote social audit committees so that citizens can audit ourselves in what they decided for their community,” he specified.

The political activist also referred to the collection of signatures that begins next Monday, August 15, indicating that the Citizen Consultation movement has been strengthened with future representatives and deputies from other provinces, who are supporting them for this collection.

He stressed that citizen participation is a right that has been denied us and “we have come to recover it.”
