Luis Pettengill, businessman and former sports leader, urged the two main movements of the ANR not to “destroy” each other in the next presidential elections (December 18). Taking into account that the opposition will arrive united within a concertation.
“My comment, my suggestion is, please, let’s not destroy each other, because the concertation is already in place, they already have all the elements, it’s going to be Efraín Alegre with Esperanza Martínez,” he warned during an interview with 780 AM.
He stressed that Alegre already had ONE million votes, so a division in the ANR could complicate the chances of remaining in power.
“Then you have to enter with all your million votes too, because if you enter divided, with 15% to 20% not voting, you lose the elections,” he recommended.
Finally, he asked not to repeat the experience of 2008, when after the internal elections, a candidate was beaten and did not collaborate in the victory of the ANR.
“Which of the two wins (Peña or Velázquez), the other is going to be very hurt and it already happened to us once. In 2008, we did not enter united and we lost the elections”, he pointed out.
