The Directorate of Extension and Livestock Development through the Beekeeping Division and with the support of the General Directorate and Deputy Directorate of Livestockrestarted for the second consecutive year the delivery of improved real cells to requesting associated beekeepers.
The purpose is to promote the replacement of queens with renewed local genetics, as part of the implementation of good beekeeping practices, in addition to replacing hives lost due to the indiscriminate use of agrochemicals.
This initiative of government emerged in 2021, after receiving from several provinces of the country dozens of notifications of bee deaths due to the indiscriminate use of agrochemicals, which, together with the poor implementation of good beekeeping practices in the management of hives and the adverse effects Climate change in recent years has contributed to the decline in national production of honey and other beehive products.
Initially, last year 800 royal cells were delivered to beekeepers from the associations of Azua, Estebanía, Santiago Rodríguez, Villa Altagracia and Bayaguana. So far in 2022, 470 royal cells have been delivered to 27 beekeepers from the Associations of Villa Altagracia, Bayaguana, Guerra, San Pedro de Macorís, Estebanía and Azua to implement Good Beekeeping Practices and produce more honey with quality and safety.
