List of José Antonio Kast prevails in the internal election of the general council of the Republican Party

The list headed by former congressman and former presidential candidate José Antonio Kast won the Republican Party general council election, leaving those led by Senator Rojo Edwards on the road.

“Very happy with the great participation in the internal elections of the Republican Party and with the triumph of the ‘Hay Equipo’ list. Now, the time has come for all of us to unite to rebuild Chile, led by Arturo Squella —general secretary of the community—, Ruth Hurtado —current helmsman— and the great Republican team,” said José Antonio Kast, after the election.

Kast’s list triumphed after obtaining 6,077 of the 7,072 votes nationwide, that is, 85.93% of the total votes, while Rojo’s list received 13.1% of the preferences.

Only 7,072 adherents participated in the election, out of a total of 20,376, which is equivalent to 35% of the Republican militancy.

It is worth mentioning that the general council is a body made up of 50 people, whose mission is to choose the next national board of the party for the next four years. This election will be on February 4.
