Lilian Samaniego questioned the unblocking of lists because it hurts candidates without financial resources

Lilian Samaniego, national senator for the ANR (government party), expressed that citizen participation is very important in any electoral system.

“I was the woman who got the most votes within the Colorado party and among all the political parties. It is a great recognition as a senator and a commitment. On the other hand, I want to say that this preferential voting system has its shortcomings that must be corrected. First, the issue of financing, with campaigns where a lot of money was paid. I ran an austere campaign because I am well known. I thank the caudillos who helped me and the thousands of people who deposited their votes to once again occupy a place in the Senate”, she stated.

He pointed out that it must be recognized that this political financing law is impossible to comply with. Because in party internals each candidate has to have a superstructure to open accounts in local banks.

“The BNF where I opened an account put me in thousands of obstacles. Secondly, I tell you that I challenge everyone to go to the Electoral Court and they will not find enough documents. The same was requested for the starters and substitutes. I am calling for reflection. I am showing that my leadership is valid in the ANR, no matter where I am on the list, they still elected me again. But this system is impossible to comply with for a young leader or for any Paraguayan citizen who has the popularity but not the money”, he stated.

He argued that there is no need to return to the “ready sheets.” “Now we must spend double what we spend on the interns,” she concluded.
