The executive director of CIAM said this Monday on Radio Panama that they are calling on the National Government and the entire country so that the project is not reactivated again.
For a week there has been talk of the possible reactivation of the Remance metal mine, located in the district of San Francisco, province of Veraguas, an initiative that has not been well received by several civil and environmental organizations, mainly by the Center for Environmental Advocacy ( CIAM).
The executive director of CIAM, Lilian Guevara, said this Monday on Radio Panama that they are calling on the National Government and the entire country so that the project is not reactivated again.
“This is an area where mining is already known, where mining has already failed socially, economically and environmentally, and this mine would directly impact the main source of water in that province, which is the Santa María River” , he pointed.
This river supplies more than 75,000 inhabitants and is the 132nd basin identified by the Hydrological System of Central America, which is located on the Pacific slope in the provinces of Veraguas, Coclé and Herrera.
