Levy, Gordon and Arrocha presented documentation for the presidency for the free candidacy this weekend

Today, Sunday, July 31, the period for the registration before the Electoral Court (TE) of the people interested in aspiring as a pre-candidate for a position of popular election by free application for the elections of May 5, 2024.

And the weekend was used by some well-known figures from the political world to present their documentation. The first was former deputy Katleen Levy who resigned on Saturday, July 30, from the Panameñista Party and presented her documentation to be a presidential candidate.

“It is time for a new generation, for new faces and opportunities. We cannot allow the same old ones to continue to rule,” were part of the statements that Levy gave upon his arrival at TE. She also said that much of what she knows about politics she owes to Panameñismo and for that reason she will carry them in her heart.

Another who took advantage of the closure of the applications was the economist Maribel Gordón, who stated that the step she has taken is due to the inconveniences that have been had for the registration of the Broad Front for Democracy (FAD) party, of which she was a candidate for the vice-presidency of the Republic in the last elections.

He said that several colleagues, friends and organizations, including women’s organizations, “have asked us to see this possibility to continue this debate, the debate that represents the Panamanian population, the interests of this people who are fed up with an economic policy that It doesn’t represent them.”

The former Minister of Commerce and Industry and member of the Panameñista party, Melitón Arrocha, also presented his request as a presidential candidate for free candidacy, but without giving up his group (El Panameñismo).

Arrocha announced that the proposal he brings is a movement to include the entire sector of civil society, businessmen, union members, professionals, trade unionists, members of political parties who feel that the leadership of their party has lost its way.

The TE announced that those who qualify for the next phase, through a recognition resolution issued by the institution, begin the collection of supporting signatures on August 15, 2022 to July 31, 2023 (11 months and 15 days). . In addition, only the members of the three lists that have obtained the most supporting signatures will be nominated as candidates.
