Gender-based violence is a social problem that, in addition to becoming more evident every day, intensifies. Therefore, the province of Buenos Aires enabled “Let’s talk”, a listening line aimed especially at men.
The program It is aimed at providing telephone assistance to men who exercise gender violence, so in “Let’s talk”, citizens can find support for their mental health care.
In this way, “Let’s talk” is a hotline addressed to all men over 18 who commit violence or that they have any criminal action against them for having incurred this crime.
Therefore, the line will be enabled both for citizens who voluntarily wish to receive help, and for those who are referred by institutions of the judiciary.
The objective of this initiative is to provide men with support from a professional, in order to take preventive actions that can protect the physical integrity of children, women and adolescents.
For this reason, the program also seeks to provide “accompaniment tools that allow masculinities to be rehabilitated, avoiding situations of violence,” according to the provincial government.
How the “Let’s Talk” listening line works
The project It is led by the Ministry of Women, Gender Policies and Gender Diversity and will be subscribed to the Undersecretary of Gender Policies and Sexual Diversity of the province of Buenos Aires.
The number enabled for the listening line is 221-602 4003 and it works from Monday to Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.within the Community Assistance Service of the College of Psychologists, District XI, Capital Region.
The program “is constituted as a primary and secondary prevention strategy within comprehensive approaches to the problems of gender-based violence.”
According to the “Now that they do see us” observatory, between January 1 and December 30, 2021, 256 gender-based murders were documented, that is, 1 every 34 hours.
