Faña was appointed as director of the plan through Resolution No. RES-MARD-2022-18, being in charge of managing the necessary financing through Agriculture or before any government entity of the agricultural sector for the development of Siembra RD, supervising its execution.

Siembra RD’s main purpose is to promote national production, focused on the basic basket of the population, in addition to coordinating with the eight regional directorates of agriculture the application of the proposed work plans, providing them with the necessary tools for harvesting the items .

The program was announced by President Luis Abinader on May 16 from the National Palace with the firm intention of continuing to guarantee the food security of all Dominicans in the face of the crisis that is affecting the world, after the Covid-19 pandemic.

This includes an initial contribution of RD$500 million at a rate of 6% per year through the Agricultural Bank to improve beef cattle and maintain the fertilizer subsidy for RD$1,275 million.

Through which all public and private actors related to the field are summoned to redouble efforts to plant every corner of the country where a plant can grow, so that food is never lacking on the table of the Dominican family, ”explained the president.

The creation of this program responds to the current concern about the production and supply of food that has led the FAO and the World Bank to consider a real threat of famine and widespread malnutrition at a global level.
