The Consulate of Spain in our country launched a new series of shifts that can be obtained starting tomorrow so that those interested in having Spanish citizenship can do so by bringing their personal files. This initiative occurs within the framework of the Grandchildren Law of the Spanish Government.
The Grandchildren Law of Spain, which actually has the name, Democratic Memory Lawbut the more descriptive denomination is chosen, it is in force from the end of October 2022 and Its purpose is to provide descendants of Spaniards, not only direct children, but also grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-grandchildren and consequent, the opportunity to apply for Spanish citizenship.
The beneficiaries of the initiative are the children of Spanish emigrants, grandchildren and other descendants of Spanish emigrants, and Spanish children of legal age whose nationality was recognized by option. They can also access the Grandchildren Law the children of Spanish women who have married foreigners before the 1978 Constitution and who have lost the nationality in question for that reason.
There was already, between 2007 and 2011, a Spanish law that allowed citizenship of the European country to be obtained, but this only applied to minors who were direct children of Spaniards. A) Yes, the so-called Historical Memory Law only applied to grandchildren and their descendants. On the other hand, the Democratic Memory Law it does not require that the applicant live in Spanish territory for a certain amount of time and can carry out the process from Argentina.
Among the main advantages granted by the documentation that accredits Spanish citizenship, you have the right to reside and work, to protection in consulates, the right to public health and to have a passport that allows you to move between the countries that make up the Schengen region. .
Documents to present for citizenship
In all cases, applicants must present the applicant’s birth certificate at the Spanish Consulate. In the specific case of the children of Spanish emigrants, a birth certificate of the father or mother issued by a Spanish civil registry will be requested (if she was born before 1870, a Spanish baptismal certificate).
If you are the grandson of Spanish emigrants, you must take the same documents as the previous group and, in addition, the birth certificate of your grandfather or grandmother. Finally, the children of legal age of Spaniards whose nationality was recognized by option: the same as the first group plus the birth certificate of the parent certifying that the parent adopted the Spanish nationality of origin.
