Madrid Spain.- The Latin Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences announced this Tuesday the candidates for the 2022 Latin Grammy Awards, among which are several Cubans, for a total of 11 nominations.
In the Best Traditional Tropical Album category, there are four nominations for the Cubans. They are Leoni Torres with “Canten”, a tribute album to Polo Montañez; Gonzalo Rubalcava and Aimée Nuviola with their album “Gonzalo Rubalcava and Aimée Nuviola live in Marciac”; the Ignacio Piñeiro National Septet with their album “Gran Combo pa’ rato”; and Renesito Avich, nominated for his album “Coffee with love”.
While in the Best Urban Performance Fusion category, the duo Ibeyi (sisters Lisa-Kaindé and Naomi Díaz) with the song “This is not America”.
The duo will compete in this category with “Pa mis chicas” (Christina Aguilera, Nicki Nicole, Becky G and Nathy Peluso), “Santo” (Christina Aguilera and Ozuna), “Volví” (Aventura and Bad Bunny) and “Titi I wonder ” (BadBunny).
The song, which features the collaboration of Puerto Rican rapper Residente, will also compete for the Best Short Form Music Video award.
The renowned pianist and composer Chucho Valdés, winner of the award five times, this time is nominated for Best Latin Jazz Album with the album “Mirror, Mirror”, together with the Brazilian pianist Eliane Elias and the American, who died last year, Chick Korea.
The album “Ancestros Sinfónico”, by Síntesis, X Alfonso and Eme Alfonso (the only nominees with permanent residence in Cuba) was among the finalists for Best Folk Album.
Alexander Delgado and Randy Malcom, from the popular duo Gente de Zona, opt for the award for Best Contemporary Tropical Album, with “De Menor a Mayor”.
For his part, Alexander Abreu and his group Havana D’Primera are nominated for Best Salsa Album for the album “Será que se over”.
The songs “El Malecón saw the end” compete for the Best Tropical Song category, performed by Amaury Gutiérrez, written by Jorge Luis Piloto; and “Bad”, written by Lenier Mesa with Marc Anthony.
The awards gala for the 23rd edition of the Latin Grammys will take place on November 17 at the Michelob Ultra Arena in Las Vegas.
