Prior to the funeral, a body mass was presided over by Cardinal Brenes Solórzano where he recalled that his mother was a woman dedicated to the Catholic Church and to the faith.
Cardinal Brenes reported that Pope Francis sent him a message of condolences on the death of his mother. In the solemn act, the Holy Father’s note was read on the death of Doña Liliam Solórzano de Brenes.

Archbishop Brenes Solórzano recalled that his mother earned the affection of Pope Francis when he told him “Panchito, I wanted to meet you and hug you,” a conversation that took place when he was created cardinal. “I think that meeting was unique and from that moment, he has always been aware of her,” said the cardinal.
The archbishop said that his mother passed away at 7:20 a.m. on Thursday, September 29, and that he had asked the Lord, while he was hospitalized for COVID-19, to allow him to be with his mother in the last moments of his life. his life.
