Piñera was visiting Uruguay in September 2021, as part of a tour of Latin America that closed his second term.

With respect to Boric’s arrival in power, since Lacalle represents more right-wing and conservative sectors and his new Chilean counterpart came to government hand in hand with the Broad Front, positioned on the left, he said: “We are going to go to the assumption of the new president, a young person, who surely has young ideas and with whom we must have the best possible relationship. For us the [océano] Pacific is important and Chile is an important country in that sense. So we are going to be in the withdrawal and in the welcome”.

Former Uruguayan President José Mujica, former Brazilian Presidents Lula da Silva and Dilma Rousseff, and former Bolivian Vice President Álvaro García Linera were invited to the event. Mujica did not plan to travel but would be visited at his farm in Rincón del Cerro in the coming weeks, according to what he published The Daily.
