Lacalle announced the Arazatí project that will allow for “unlimited drinking water capacity”

President Luis Lacalle Pou announced this Tuesday at a press conference in Torre Ejecutiva that after a “long adventure” the “Arazatí” project was approved. He stressed that this is the largest investment in the area in the last 150 years in the country, which will initially be US$200,000,000, but that if the OSE board of directors votes for sanitation, it will reach almost US$500,000,000 .

He was ahead of The R newspaper that there will be a call for international bidding. The president said that two major problems were taken into account; on the one hand, that sanitation is not enough and on the other, the need to have a second source of supply.

He stressed that it is an “investment that makes the security of having water without prejudice to drought and technical failures.” In addition, he stressed that it will allow sanitation in 60 towns throughout the country. “This also speaks of a country that cares about environmental issues, because we are talking about vital food for various things,” he continued. The president was accompanied by the Minister of the Environment, Adrián Peña, and by part of the OSE Board of Directors.
