La Oroya: Schoolboy throws himself into the river to pick up the ball and dies by drowning

“My precious son”, “Let me go with my son”, were the heartbreaking cries of the father of the minor Favid Cristian ER (16) who drowned in the Mantaro River over the weekend. Favid and his friends took advantage of the beginning of the vacation period to go to the golf course to play sports and on the way back they decided to play a game on the sports court, but tragedy was close by and death came at such an early age.

The student of the fifth “C” of the educational institution José María Arguedas de La Oroya, drowned in the cold waters of the Mantaro River while trying to recover a ball that fell into the flow when he was playing soccer with his friends near the young town of El Porvenir a only meters from the Mantaro. According to his friends, they were playing and suddenly the ball rolled into the river, the young man did not think twice and threw himself into the torrent being dragged by the waters.

They quickly reported the incident to the police and fifteen specialized rescue personnel went out in search of the minor, managing to spot his body near the wastewater plant of the La Oroya smelter.

The policemen entered the turbulent waters, managing to reach the submerged body in a ventral position, to then secure it and tie it with a rope to a metal stretcher to be able to remove it and by order of the Public Ministry the body was transferred to the morgue of the city ​​where Dr. Carlos Bustamante Montoro performed an autopsy on Ley, indicating that he died of asphyxiation and drowning.

His remains were delivered to his parents and since Saturday night they are being watched in the Curipata sector where the student lived.
