As a “true journey”, this is how the young opponent describes Kevin Monzon his path to reach the United States, which he managed to complete in the company of other relatives on Friday, September 30, when he regained his freedom after 42 days detained by immigration authorities of the North American country.
In interview with Article 66“the Tiktoker”, as the young man from Managua is known, recounted the different situations he had to go through in order to leave Costa Rica —the country where he first went into exile— and pass through Nicaragua, Honduras, El Salvador, Guatemala and Mexico to start a new stage of his life.

“It was a very terrible experience. It was a trip that hurt a lot because I didn’t have enough money to be able to travel, but I held on to the hand of God and it took me 18 days to be able to turn myself in — to United States Immigration.
Monzón, who on repeated occasions was the victim of aggression, siege, persecution and arbitrary arrests by the Sandinista regime; He narrated that in addition to enduring sun and hunger, on August 18, while trying to cross the Rio Grande, his sister and one of her nephews almost drowned.
“That day I will never forget, because I saw that my sister and my little nephew were being carried away by the river. I cried and said: “I don’t want to return to Nicaragua, knowing that my nephew and my sister would drown.”. My sister and my nephew told me that they couldn’t take it anymore, that they were going to let go, I told them to trust in God, to sing the victory hymn and God opened the way for us to get out»counted between tears .
He added that while trying to help his relatives, he lost all his belongings. “I was left with nothing, everything was washed away by the river, but thank God we managed to cross,” he said, relieved.
“The strength came from God every day to continue undertaking the journey that we had. Today it has become a reality thanks to our Lord Jesus Christ that we will always be grateful to Him,” he said encouraged.
Monzón has been released for five days by Immigration of the United States, he says that he is still wearing his shirt, a pair of shoes and a sweatshirt that was provided to him at the Texas border post.

«It is terrible because at the moment we have nowhere to live, we have looked for Father Edwing Román and Monsignor Silvio Báez to help us. It is terrible to get up and see that we are in another country, but we are extremely grateful to God for being here, I just hope I can get a job and get ahead, “he stressed.
On the 25th of this month, Monzón will have to go to his second appointment at Immigration to continue with his asylum request. “They asked me if I am afraid of returning to my country, I told them yes, because I am politically persecuted, that they review the precautionary measures of the IACHR in my favor, because my life is in danger in Nicaragua,” he concluded.
