Kenji Fujimori: trial for alleged vote buying will continue next Wednesday, June 8

The trial for alleged vote buying against the former congressmanin charge of the Special Criminal Chamber of the Supreme Court, chaired by Judge Inés Villa Bonilla, will continue next Wednesday, June 8 at 9:00 a.m.

According to the provisions of said judicial body, that day will continue with the viewing of the videos presented by the Public Ministry as evidence on alleged illicit negotiations attributed to the accused.

It should be noted that this Wednesday’s session was held in person at the Palace of Justice, with biosecurity measures and the presence of the members of the court, the supreme prosecutor, the necessary judicial personnel and the defense of the four defendants.

This trial also includes the accused former congressmen Guillermo Bocangel, Welcome Ramirez and the former adviser Kenji Fujimori, Alexei Toledowho are accused of having offered works to the late former legislator Moses Mamani.

According to the tax thesis, a plan would have been organized to try to buy votes from congressmen in order to avoid the vacancy of the then President of the Republic Peter Paul Kuczynski.

The prosecution requested 12 years in prison against former congressman Kenji Fujimoriaccused of the alleged crimes of own generic active bribery and aggravated influence peddling.

He also requested payment of a fine of S/ 130 thousand for the younger brother of former presidential candidate Keiko Fujimori and disqualification for 183 months for the exercise of public office.

According to the prosecutor’s accusation, the recordings made would show that the defendants would have tried to convince Mamani to vote against the vacancy of Kuczynski Godard.

In exchange for his vote, he was offered “Financing of projects, programs and state works, granting of jobs in the State, judicial protection, obtaining illicit profits from the collection of percentages for works, etc.”.

It should be noted that in September 2021, the National Prosecutor’s Office filed a constitutional complaint against PPK and Kenji Fujimori for the alleged purchase of votes to avoid the vacancy in exchange for pardoning former President Alberto Fujimori (1990-2000).
