The jurist Antônio Augusto Cançado died at the age of 74, in Brasília, this Sunday (29). The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MRE) released a note of sorrow for the death of Professor Cançado Trindade, judge of the International Court of Justice. Jurist Augusto Cançado Trindade dies at 74 in Brasília

For the Itamaraty, Brazil has lost one of its most brilliant and dedicated jurists.

“The Minister of State and the employees of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, admirers of the personal and professional qualities of Professor Cançado Trindade, express their deepest condolences to his family members, with the certainty that the professor’s memory will live on, in his works, in his ideas and in all the people he inspired with his example”, declared the folder.

Throughout his career, Cançado Trindade served as legal advisor to Itamaraty between 1985 and 1990 and was a professor at the Rio Branco Institute between 1979 and 2009. He also held the positions of judge and president of the Inter-American Court of Human Rights, member of the Permanent Court Arbitration and the International Court of Justice.
