The Presidency of the Council of Ministers (PCM) confirmed in October the ratification of the economist as president of the monetary entity.
Julio Velarde has directed the country’s monetary policy for 15 years, when he was appointed head of the central bank by former President Alan García. He has been recognized as the Central Banker of the Year globally in 2015 by the international magazine The Banker, of the Financial Times publishing group, and as the Central Banker of the Americas of the Year 2020.
It is still pending that the Congress of the Republic elects the other 3 directors who will also accompany Velarde on the board of the BCR.
