n Sinaloa is getting fulfilling a State operation to bend communities of indigenous peoples who have legitimately opposed the installation of an ammonia plant in an area of necessary ecological protection. The polluting business project was hatched by PRI members and independent and now it has been promoted at the three levels of government by Morena.

the same corrupting effect that the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation has applied in other cases (Florence Cassez, notable example) proceeds with regard to the tricky approval of the always contested project to install an ammonia plant in the Ohuira Bay, which is part of the Topolobampo lagoon system, in the municipality of Ahome.

There is located one of the 142 wetlands that Mexico has committed to respect and protect, in accordance with international agreements on Ramsar sites (on Ohuira: https://bit.ly/3Bpq7bq). The full protection mandate was assumed by Mexico in 2009. The Lagunas de Santa María-Topolobampo-Ohuira site is the ninth of the 28 priority wetlands, identified by Ducks Unlimited of Mexico (Dumac), which are home to 84 percent of the migratory waterfowl distributed in Mexico during the winter period. Despite the obvious damage to the environment that an ammonia plant would mean, Sinaloan politicians promoted the project (former Governor Francisco Labastida; then Governor Mario López Valdez –2011 to 2017– and his Secretary of Government, Gerardo Vargas Landeros, among others). ). The Gas and Petrochemical company of the West (GPO), with foreign and national capital, was never able to advance as has happened with morenistas in the federal, state and municipal governments.

Governor Rubén Rocha Moya has been partial when it comes to designing and carrying out a new consultation with the original peoples ordered by the Supreme Court, after a makeshift consultation had been carried out in November 2021, without a hint of legality, to the that Rocha Moya himself and the then Federal Undersecretary of the Interior, Rabindranath Salazar Solorio, tried to take for granted. The municipal president of Ahome is the same Vargas Landeros who had originally promoted the business (Shipyard November 2021: in Topolobampo, the plant of death https://bit.ly/3BZerhb).

Governor Rocha Moya, through acts of power and constant journalistic statements, pressured the communities to approval of said plant. This Sunday the process of queryin which the communities directly affected (Ohuira, Paredones and Lázaro Cárdenas, winners of an injunction before the Court, to which Juan José Ríos joined) rejected the project, but other distant towns were included in the query and these did most.

Yesterday, the morenista governor considered extraordinary the result in favor of the company, since the peoples directly affected they could declare themselves in absentia and complicate the matter and delegitimize the referendum, but they decided to participate; they behaved like reasonable people, who decided that development is required by citizenship. He added, mercantile: no people that expressed disagreement will have the back of the government. Ohuira will have its drainage, Lázaro Cárdenas will have its road surface and Vallejo its highway..

The leaders of the objecting communities, in particular three women, have received threats of lifts and death if they continue to resist. The threats come from alleged organized crime groups. This Monday, revealed Rocha Moya, the Ministry of the Environment and Natural Resources (Semarnat) approved the Environmental Impact Statement (MIA), so the work can start as soon as investors approve it ( Riotwelve: https://bit.ly/3dtGID3). It remains for the Court to declare the judgment that forced a proper consultation executed, without government pressure or consequent corrupting effects. See you tomorrow!
