Judge denied the arrest of Congressman Freddy Díaz denounced for rape

Yesterday morning, starting at 10:00 am, the Supreme Court of Preparatory Investigation held a private hearing to assess the request of the Prosecutor’s Office. Supreme Judge Juan Carlos Checkley said that the resolution would be issued within the legal term; seven hours later, he confirmed his decision.

The director of the National Aurora Program of the Ministry of Women and Vulnerable Populations (Mimp), Angela Acevedo, specified that the parliamentarian’s defense acquiesced to the tax request. “His defense was paved, it was up to the Judiciary to take action. The only detail is that the Prosecutor’s Office requested nine months and they had requested that the term be shorter”, he pointed to Peru21 hours before the failure was known.

Acevedo is one of the MIMP lawyers working on the case against Díaz. She indicated that yesterday, in addition to the hearing of the Judiciary, the Public Ministry questioned the congressman’s security personnel and also the agents who guard the offices located in Jirón Azángaro.

“This week there were about five proceedings. We, the lawyers in the case, are providing legal support to the victim and we believe that the evidence supports her complaint”, he expressed.

In the exteriors of Congress, the Flora Tristán collective held a sit-in to ask for the lawmaker’s immunity. “We cannot allow those who must protect our rights to be those who violate us”, they stated.
