The president of the National Elections Jury (JNE), Jorge Luis Salas-Arenasdenied knowing the person that Zamir Villaverde accused of planning an alleged fraud to allow Pedro Castillo to win the 2021 elections.
In statements to RPP, the magistrate thus responded to the testimony given by the businessman who is serving preventive detention for the investigation of the Tarata Bridge tender before the Congressional Oversight Commission.
“I do not know any Meza Villarreal, nor Mr. Pacheco, nor the lady who also refers, nor the accused Villaverde himself, I have never spoken with him directly or through anyone”Salas Arenas pointed out.
Villaverde assured, before indicating that he would take advantage of his right to remain silent before the commission, that the person in charge of planning the alleged fraud with the JNE was the former mayor of Huaraz Vladimir Meza Villareal.
“I want to say that I testified before the Karla Zecenarro Monge prosecutor’s office, in that sense, in order not to interfere with the Public Ministry and after coordinating with my lawyer, I can only say that the person who planned with the National Elections Jury (JNE ), at the highest level, making Pedro Castillo president today and harming Rafael López Aliaga and Keiko Fujimori is Mr. Vladimir Meza Villarreal”responded in a videoconference from the Ancón I prison.
The president of the JNE questioned that the person under investigation had chosen to keep a “convenient silence” after denouncing an alleged fraud. For this reason, he urged the public to remember that Zamir Villaverde is charged with alleged crimes of corruption and money laundering.
