On the fifth anniversary of the publication of the General Law on Forced Disappearance of Persons, the Undersecretariat for Human Rights, Population and Migration of the Ministry of the Interior asserted that “it is essential to carry out, from all institutions, a balance of the advances and challenges that remain to make it effective.

We must all assume the obligation of the Mexican State in the search and investigation to guarantee the rights to truth and justice, he stressed.

There is progress, but it is far from effective: UN-DH

The Office in Mexico of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (UN-DH) warned that although there are important advances, are far from fully effective. It is striking, he stressed, that some tools that the law provides for, such as the forensic data bank and the records of unidentified deceased persons and graves, nor the exhumation program, have not yet been issued.

In a statement, the federal agency stated that the Mexican government has recognized the disappearance and forensic crises, and work has been done hand in hand with the families of victims of this crime and with federal and state authorities, in addition to cooperating with international organizations in the construction of a State response.

He explained that during the current administration, from that unit and the National Search Commission a National Registry of Data on Missing or Disappeared Persons has been consolidated, the approved search protocols and the search protocols for children and adolescents were built. Likewise, he indicated, most of the local tracking commissions were installed, which have been strengthened.

Also noteworthy is the creation of the Extraordinary Forensic Identification Mechanism; the regional centers for human identification in Coahuila, San Luis Potosí, Tamaulipas and Jalisco, and the National Center for Human Identification.

Through social networks, the UN-DH office in Mexico pointed out that the general law on the matter It is a crucial instrument for the eradication of the scourge of the disappearance of personsand urged the authorities to ensure its effective implementation.
