Joaquín Sabina: “The failure of communism has been fierce”

MIAMI, United States. — The Spanish singer-songwriter Joaquín Sabina spoke again about politics during the presentation of a documentary about the last years of his life and career. On this occasion, the artist had no qualms about referring to the failure of communist regimes in the 20th century.

“The failure of communism has been ferocious. The drift of the Latin American left breaks my heart, precisely because I have been so far to the left, now I am no longer one,” said Sabina in a conference offered regarding the launch of Feeling it a lotan audiovisual directed by the director Fernando León de Aranoa.

In this sense, the singer-songwriter declared that the only revolutions he recognizes right now are those linked to the feminist movement and the LGBTI community.

“The revolutions of the 20th century all failed miserably and the only ones that advance in the 21st century are feminism and LGBTI”.

The singer-songwriter, who was accompanied by Aranoa himself and by the Spanish musician Leyva, said he felt very disappointed in the 21st century and emphasized the degradation of language, an issue that he assured was of great interest, with the rise of social networks.

Sabina had been in the news last week for publicly distancing herself from the cuban revolution in an interview offered to the Spanish newspaper The world.

“I am very pissed off. And also pissed off with the devastating failure of all the revolutions of the 20th century. I was a friend of the Cuban revolution and of Fidel Castro. But I’m not anymore, I can’t be”, said the artist on that occasion.

The author of 19 days and 500 nights He made it clear that he supported Cubans who take to the streets to protest and also those who have gone into exile.

“Now I am on the side of those who demonstrate and those who are exiled from the Island. Those of us who have been on the left have the responsibility to tell the truth in the face of some disasters on the left,” said the singer-songwriter.
