Jean Alain seeks to get out of prison today

Former Attorney General of the Republic Jean Alain Rodríguez try this friday to get out of the Najayo-Man jail after serving 15 of the 18 months imposed on him prison preventive for the biggest corruption scandal so far submitted to justice in the current government management and baptized as Operation Medusa.

His lawyers, Carlos Balcácer and Gustavo Biaggi, argued yesterday that all the judges have agreed that the prison of Rodríguez for the complaint of the Public ministry that when he was released he “would interfere” in the investigation, which was concluded, so that “the alleged risk” expressed by the Specialized Attorney for Administrative Corruption (Pepca)does not exist.

Rodríguez has urged Pepca not to oppose his request for less serious coercion and guaranteed that, if he is favored, he will not be removed from the process that is being followed for allegedly having defrauded the State with more than 6,000 million pesos from the Attorney General’s Office with overvaluation of works and other irregularities, especially in its so-called Humanization Plan of the Penitentiary System.

“It is already unsustainable to continue with the absurd stories that Jean-Alain Rodríguez Sánchez is responsible for constructions without being an engineer, for overvaluations that turned out to be non-existent or that he acquired properties with money from the Attorney General’s Office,” Balcácer and Biggai state in a press release.

The former official was arrested on June 29 of last year and sent to jail along with three of his main collaborators, with the exception of Rafael Stefano Cano Saccowho was head of the Attorney General’s Office and whom the Public Ministry did not charge.

Canó Sacco will be used as a witness by Pepca to prove how the structure of the network that is attributed to Jean-Alain.

The administrative director Jonathan Joel Rodríguez Imbert, who was part of the Purchasing Committee of the Public Ministry, allegedly manipulated the institution’s purchasing processes and previously selected the bidders who would be the winners.

Alfredo Alexander Solano Augusto, former administrative deputy director of the Public Ministry, is accused of being part of the circle of trust of Jean-Alain that conditioned the purchasing processes to favor companies close to the interests of the former attorney, and overvalued prices to give them a margin that would allow suppliers to obtain a profit and deliver to Rafael Antonio Mercedes Marte the amount required by Rafael Stefano Canó Sacco.
