Jared Dicus, confessed femicide of Anggy Díaz, is subjected to a psychological evaluation

Jared James Dicus, 21, who confessed to murdering his wife, the Nicaraguan Angy Diazwas subjected to a psychological evaluation to determine if he will be tried in a court of law or if he will be sent to a center for people with mental disabilities, revealed Telemundo.

The result of this valuation is “key” for the judicial process that Dicus will face, who remains detained and with a bail of 500,000 dollars.

According to the indictment, Jared Dicus stabbed Diaz multiple times and then decapitated her. The “heinous” crime occurred on January 11, in Magnolia in Waller County, Texas, in the United States.

County Sheriff Troy Guidry confirmed that the Nicaraguan’s body was found in two parts.

Anggy Díaz, 21, was originally from El Viejo, Chinandega, who was murdered by her husband in the United States.

In addition, he assured that “the evidence shows us” that Dicus “he used a kitchen knife” to behead Anggy Díaz, who was originally from the municipality of El Viejo, in the department of Chinandega.

The young Nicaraguan had emigrated to Texas, United States, more than three years ago; and last October 2022, she married Dicus, whom she met at the store where she worked in Magnolia.

The couple lived in a house behind Dicus’s parents’ house. According to the Sheriff, the parents of the confessed murderer were the ones who called the authorities to report the crime.

The body of the young Nicaraguan woman will be repatriated to her native town of El Viejo, in Chinandega, where her foster mother and aunt, María Libertad Díaz, together with other relatives and friends hope to give her a Christian burial.

Alert for wave of femicides

In the first half of 2023, there have been reported seven femicides. Of these cases, five of them were murdered abroad and two in Nicaragua.

On January 5, 2023, the first victim of femicide was registered in the country: Esther Damaris Martinez Alaniz, 34 years old. Her body was found in a cane field in the Cuitanga Sur region, in the municipality of Chichigalpa, department of Chinandega.

In 2022, at least 110 women became survivors, according to the organization that records cases of violence and abuse against women.

The second femicide in Nicaragua was reported on January 13. Is about Francisca Ines Estrella Vanegas, whose body was found with signs of violence in a pasture in the La Calula community, in the municipality of Cárdenas, department of Rivas. The forensic doctor determined that Estrella had her throat cut.

Between January 8 and 12 alone, at least five Nicaraguan women were murdered, three in Costa Rica, one in Guatemala, and one in the United States. The victims were identified as Evelyn Fatima Gonzalez Zeledon46 years old; Maria de los Angeles Larios Sanchez46 years old; Maria Auxiliadora Lopez37 years old, Grethel de los Angeles Guerrero Torres, 34 years old; Y Angy Diaz Rivera21 years old.

The Catholic organization for the Right to Decide, in 2022 registered 69 femicides and 110 women managed to get out alive, becoming survivors of sexist violence.
