The Superior Electoral Court of Brazil ruled in favor of disqualifying former President Jair Bolsonaro for abuse of power when he was in office between 2019-2022.
Five of the seven judges voted in favor of the former president not being able to hold public office. nor opt for popularly elected positions for a period of 8 years that begin to be counted from October 2022, when the presidential elections took place in Brazil.
The case stems from a complaint from a political party over unfounded questions that Bolsonaro made about the security of the Brazilian electoral system during a meeting he held with foreign ambassadors before the October 2022 elections, in which he was defeated by the current president. Luiz Ignacio Lula da Silva.
According to Bolsonaro, an injustice is being committed against him since he considers that he never committed a crime, now the right-wing parties will have to look for a leader for the 2026 elections, since the void left by the former Brazilian president will be difficult to fill for other candidates.
