Jaime Navarrete arrives at another imprisoned birthday in "La Modelo"

Jaime Navarretepolitical prisoner of Daniel Ortega, remains imprisoned and incommunicado in the maximum security cells of the Jorge Navarro Penitentiary System, known as “La Modelo”, in Tipitapa, despite the fact that he has already paid a code sentence imposed by the Nicaraguan justice system.

On January 24 of this year, Navarrete served a sentence of three years and six months, for the alleged crimes of possession of narcotics, psychotropic drugs, other controlled substances and illegal possession of weapons, however the Ortega regime refuses to release him.

A relative of the opponent said, on condition of anonymity to Article 66, that Navarrete “continues to suffer in the prisons of the Ortega Murillo regime, despite the fact that he has already served the unjust sentence imposed by his executioners and kidnappers.”

He recalled that one month after serving his sentence, the dictatorship exiled, on February 9, 222 former political prisoners, a list to which he was added, but which the US government supposedly did not admit.

Despite the fact that the United States removed Jaime Navarrete from the list, his relative stated that he should have been released because his sentence had already expired. “The unfair, irrational, aberrant sentence imposed for crimes that he never committed and that were fabricated by the dictatorial machinery was fulfilled.”

He also denounced that since November 2022 Navarrete has not received parcels or family visits, after his uncle Rodrigo Navarrete, the only family member who visited him, was also kidnapped, to be later released, but forced into exile.

He added that in December of the same year, the mother of the political hostage, who resides in the United States, arrived in Nicaragua to visit him, but the authorities of “La Modelo” denied her the visit and delivery of food.

“Since that date, almost eight months of total cruelty and violation of the norms, agreements and treaties signed by Nicaragua in the area of human rights have elapsed. Jaime is totally isolated, we fear for his life and physical integrity,” the relative expressed concern, who demanded his immediate release.

For the family of the political prisoner, denying him his freedom is a “whim” of his jailers. “Of Jaime we know absolutely nothing, so we make an urgent call to the different human rights organizations to take steps for his immediate release,” they said.

Jaime Navarrete was kidnapped for the first time in 2018 and sentenced to 24 years in prison, allegedly for having murdered a paramilitary, however he was released from prison under the controversial Ortega Amnesty Law, on June 10, 2019. His freedom was one of the shortest because on July 24 of the same year he was captured again, to later be accused and convicted of drug-related crimes.
