Santo Domingo.- The academic and international analyst Iván Gatón affirmed that the war between Russia and Ukraine shows that the world is experiencing “a time of crisis and universal repercussions”, and said that this conflict is marked by “the narrative that we see and read on the networks, with predominance of propaganda in the political debate.
In this sense, Gatón argued that it is necessary for the main states to dialogue and build consensus to ensure peace in the world.
«The contemporary geopolitical scenario, cruelly represented in the war initiated by Russia, demonstrates the impotence of the most sensible minds in the face of the destructive maelstrom of prejudice, hatred and violence that are present on the networks, with false news, and hate speech,” he said.
He added that “this cyber-geopolitical scenario is not conducive to truth and freedom, and that this infocracy has permeated the entire planet in a forceful negative way.”
The expert commented that there is currently a post-digital era governed by geopolitics and that it accelerates geopolitical processes that were already underway. Therefore, “this new geopolitical period of comparative anarchy makes peaceful international relations more difficult.”
«The global space provided by the digital world is an anarchic space, where the geopolitical sphere is affected by the armies of trolls, people who are dedicated to creating controversies and misinformation with their comments on the network, and by bots, which they are a certain type of software that can be malignant or benign, which are dedicated to spreading false news, hate speech to influence public opinion, “he said.
He stressed that, apparently, “algorithms and artificial intelligence will take over cyber space for geopolitical battles, and thus influence social, economic and political processes, banishing the humanism that was born in the Renaissance, in the fifteenth century , gave splendor to everything human, opened the doors of reason, which shows us an ethic that demands the truth, and this in turn leads us to the fact that freedom cannot exist in the strict sense of the term if the misfortunes of others they are alien to us.”
