Iván Duque sobre migrantes venezolanos

Iván Duque: “Maduro will not enter Colombian territory while I am the president”

The president of Colombia specified that regarding the presidential inauguration of Petro on August 7, “if the next president wants to have Maduro here in Colombia, he will be able to do so once he has been sworn in as president.”

The president of Colombia Iván Duque assured in an interview for the media WEEK that, “as long as I am the president of the republic, Nicolás Maduro will not enter Colombian territory” and stressed that he is worried about Venezuela.

In this sense, when questioned about the approaches of the elected president Gustavo Petro and Nicolás Maduro, he pointed out that the relationship that the nation has with the neighboring country is that of “Siamese”. “We have already welcomed almost two million migrants in our territory, but clearly Nicolás Maduro is being investigated by the International Criminal Court, they have arrest warrants for drug trafficking in the United States, he, Tarek William Saab, Diosdado Cabello, and another group of his closest circle”, he highlighted.

Duque pointed out that there are currently 50 countries that do not recognize Nicolás Maduro as a legitimate ruler. “Then I understand the concern that exists when talking about rapprochement, it is to improve trade, economic relations, etc.”

The president stressed that, for him, the first thing that must be demanded of Maduro is that he “turn over the Colombian terrorists who are protected in that territory, to whom he has given sanctuary, money and has included them in all the lines of business of the ‘cartel of the suns’”, he said.

He indicated that he does not see it possible to have a diplomatic, mellifluous and salon relationship, “as we have had in other times, it is not a good recipe. In addition, the future of Venezuela is based on the fact that there are free, transparent elections with international oversight so that the democratic resistance can really, with guarantees, confront the dictator.”

Regarding the presidential inauguration of Petro on August 7, he specified that the presidential inaugurations are organized with the Foreign Ministry and the Military House. “Iván Duque, president of Colombia, does not recognize Nicolás Maduro as the legitimate president of Venezuela. That means that, if the next president wants to have him here in Colombia, he will be able to do it once he has been sworn in as president”

He added that “if he wants while I am the president of the republic, Nicolás Maduro will not enter Colombian territory. Make him that recognition and if he wants to make that invitation to him while I am the president of Colombia, Nicolás Maduro is not recognized as the head of state of Venezuela.”
