Fray Gonzalo Bernabé Ituarte Verduzco was appointed director of the Fray Francisco de Vitoria Human Rights Center (CDH Vitoria), after the death of Father Miguel Concha Malo –on January 9–, who headed this civil association focused on dissemination, education, investigation, promotion and legal defense of human rights.
In a statement, the CDH Vitoria highlighted the experiences and contributions of Ituarte Verduzco as a defender in various latitudes. The Dominican priest collaborated with Bishop Samuel Ruiz García, defender of the guarantees of the indigenous peoples of Mexico and Latin America, and participated in the founding of the Fray Bartolomé de Las Casas Human Rights Center, in San Cristóbal, Chiapas.
He was also president of the civil organization Services and Advisory for Peace (Serapaz) and vicar of Justice and Peace of the Diocese of San Cristóbal de Las Casas.
The CDH Vitoria stressed that his appointment is given to continue the legacy of Father Concha Malo, built collectively with social movements, victims of serious human rights violations, youth defenders, institutions and more organizations

In a message spread on social networks, Ituarte Verduzco pointed out that from this stage We are going to continue and deepen the service of the Vitoria Center and open ourselves to new dialogues and realities that are becoming present in our world, in which the defense and promotion of human rights is becoming more radically necessary.
