Italia Venezuela Hugo Carvajal: Italia interrogará al

Italy will interrogate ‘Pollo’ Carvajal before his extradition to the United States.

The National Court Spanish authorized the Italian Prosecutor’s Office to interrogate the former Venezuelan general Hugo Armando Carvajal, known as El Pollo, on the alleged irregular financing of the Italian anti-establishment party 5 Star Movement.

Legal sources confirmed to Efe this Thursday that a judge of the National Court issued the order in which authorizes this displacement of the Italian prosecutors to take a statement to the former head of the Venezuelan intelligence services.

Carvajal, arrested in Spain last Septembere after two years in unknown whereabouts, is waiting to be delivered to the United States, which claims it for alleged drug trafficking crimes.

After a long process, on October 20, the Spanish National Court agreed to ask the US for guarantees in the extradition of the former Venezuelan general, with regard to treatment related to human rights and the possibility of recourse, such as last step for delivery.

Pollo Carvajal used different strategies to stop or at least delay that extradition, including ask for asylum, which was not granted, or appeal to the Supreme Court the decision of the Spanish Government to extradite him, whose appeal was also rejected.

Another trick was to lend himself to testify before a Spanish judge on alleged corruption schemes of the Chavista regime with former Spanish political leaders of the left-wing party Podemos for the alleged financing of this political formation.

In the case of the Italian prosecutors, according to the Spanish newspaper “Abc”, their statement would fit into the investigation of an alleged shipment of 3.5 million euros (4 million dollars) per diplomatic bag to the founder of the 5 Star Movement, Gianroberto Casaleggio, through the consular delegation of Venezuela in Italy.
