Italy registered an inflation of 8.1% in 2022 compared to 2021, in the highest annual price increase since 1985, reported the statistical institute Istat.

Consumer prices rose 8.1% last year “marking the highest increase since 1985, when it was 9.2%”Istat reported this Tuesday when giving the final numbers of the economy for 2022.

The cause of the increases “mainly” is the rise in energy prices, added the official note.

According to the official institute, inflation forecast for 2023 is 5.1%.
