Italian scientist receives Order Carlos J. Finlay of Cuba

The Italian collaborator of the Finlay Institute of Vaccines, Fabrizio Chiodo, received here today the Carlos J. Finlay Order, the highest recognition granted by Cuba to personalities and national and foreign institutions in the scientific field.

The general director of the Finaly Institute, Dr. Vicente Vérez, awarded the award to the young specialist of the Institute of Biomolecular Chemistry of the city of Naples, attached to the National Council for Scientific Research of Italy, in a ceremony held at the Cuban embassy in this country .

Graduated in 2008 in Chemistry and Pharmaceutical Technologies at the University of Palermo, the 37-year-old researcher successfully defended his doctoral thesis in Applied Chemistry at the University of the Basque Country in 2013, and since 2014 he has collaborated with the Finlay Institute.

In August 2021, the University of Havana conferred the Special Teaching Category of Guest Professor and in January of this year the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Cuba conferred the Order that he received today from Professor Vérez, who highlighted his qualities professional and human.

In this sense, he referred to Chiodo’s collaboration with the Finlay Institute, in particular during the development phase of the Sovereign series vaccines developed by that scientific center against Covid-19.

The honoree thanked his Cuban colleagues for the opportunity to participate in scientific research for the benefit of all human beings, in the context of a country distinguished by its public health and education services, as well as a biotechnological sector, equally public.

For her part, the ambassador of the Caribbean nation, Mirta Granda, underlined the scientific merits of the awardee, whom she described as “an exceptional human being”, bearer of feelings and values ​​shared with Cubans, who praise him at all times.
